The 5 Pillars of Optimal Health

Health is the true wealth in this world. Don’t believe me? Ask any sick, wealthy man whether he would trade his wealth to be young and healthy again and he would say ‘yes’ 100% of the time.

When it comes to health, we have been bombarded with masses of false marketing, fad diets and useless supplements and snake oil cures. However, the truth is hidden in plain sight, right in front of your eyes, but invisible to the brainwashed. The real truth to health and vitality is very simple and requires no magic pill, supplement or fad low fat diet.

The key to VITALITY is to live NATURALLY. Simple as that. If we live in the way mother nature intended us to, we would all be happy, healthy, vibrant people. Conditions such as depression, diabetes, heart disease etc. would not exist. These issues are a modern phenomenon of man made self destruction, living in an unnatural toxic environment, eating fake foods, drinking water filled with chemicals and spending all our days inside staring at screens.

Without further ado, here are the 5 Pillars to Health and Vitality:

  1. OXYGEN (AIR)

Without oxygen for 2-3 minutes, you will be dead. Therefore this is of course the most important factor of our survival, let alone health.

As a result of living in cities, along with industrial pollution, our air is not as pure as it once was. Therefore it is very important that you spend a fair amount of time in nature (forest, mountains, beach etc.) to supply your body with good clean fresh air..

Indoors air is very stale compared to outdoor air no matter what, therefore it is also recommended that you keep windows open in order to keep a flow of fresh air within your house/apartment. An air filter can also help improve the quality of your indoors air. Remember, Without adequate fresh air, your brain becomes foggy and you will lack energy.

SOLUTION:

  • Breathe through your nose and into your diaphragm

  • Spend lots of time outdoors, in nature

  • Invest in an air filter for your home/office space

2. HYDRATION (WATER)

Go a few days without fluids and you will be dead. Therefore, quality water is the second pillar to optimal health. Water makes life possible, we live on a planet that is 70% water and the human body is also made of 60% water.

The problem is, that in our modern societies, our tap water is polluted with chemicals including fluorine, chlorine, heavy metals, hormones, nitrates and pesticides. As a result, these chemicals interfere with our normal bodily processing. As a result this negatively impacts our health, hormones and brain functioning. Even worse, many of us consume toxic drinks such as soda and alcohol.

SOLUTION:

  • Invest in a high quality water filtration system

    Source natural spring or well water.

  • Avoid plastic bottles as chemicals such as BPA can leach into your water, mimicking estrogen (female sex hormone) in your body.

  • Drink out of Glass or Stainless Steel Bottles

3. NUTRITION (FOOD)

Food is what sustains us. You are what you eat. Your body absorbs the food you eat and creates new cells. So if you want to feel and look like junk, feel free to eat junk. But if you want to feel like a god, then it is vital that you supply your body with the proper fuel, AKA The foods mother nature intended on us to eat.

As Jack Lalanne said- “If man made it, don’t eat it”.

SOLUTIONS:

  • Eat Real Foods- Grass Fed/Organic Meats, Wild Game, Wild caught Fish, Eggs, High quality Raw Dairy, some Nuts, Roots/Tubers, Vegetables and Fruits

  • Avoid all Junk and Processed Foods (Only on occasion if you wish)

  • Eat a lot of Saturated animal Fats from Healthy animals- this is the holy grail of health foods, as our brain is 60% fat and our hormones are derived from saturated fat and cholesterol

4. EXERCISE (MOVEMENT)

“Life is Movement. Once you stop moving, your dead. Choose life” Eugen Sandow (early 1900’s bodybuilder).

If you wish to maintain strength and the virility of a horse throughout your life, it is important to train your body. You must not only keep your cardiovascular system functioning, but also take part in resistance exercise in order to maintain and develop strong, functional muscles and bones. They say that stronger people live longer, as do those with a strong grip.

Sitting down will kill you. So stand up and go for a run, go lift weights, go do something god dammit. Just get off the couch and MOVE!

SOLUTIONS:

  • Lift Weights 2+ days per week- Full Body Training or Upper/Lower split

  • Walk, Run or Hike to keep your heart and lungs pumping

  • Take part in Martial Arts, Boxing to develop all round conditioning and ability

  • Play sports and spend time outdoors

  • Remember to stretch and do mobility work to stay flexible

5. CIRCADIAN RHYTHM (SLEEP/LIGHT)

Scientists always say they still don’t understand why we need sleep. Well, an idiot can see why we need sleep. We all know that when we have poor quality or insufficient sleep we feel like a damn zombie.

Sleep is ESSENTIAL to your health. Without sleep, your body cannot regenerate and refresh effectively. After a good nights sleep, you should wake up refreshed and ready to take on the world.

Problem is, our circadian rhythm is being messed up by the constant lights and artificial stimulation of modern light. In particular, the blue lights from your smartphones and computers are keeping you up later and reducing REM (rapid eye movement) Sleep (stage of deep, regenerative sleep).

In nature, animals sleep when it is dark and wake up when its bright. This is what you should do to.

SOLUTIONS:

  • Go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning. (AKA. Go to bed when it’s dark, and wake up when the sun rises)

  • Do not use screens within 1-2 hours before bedtime. Minimise blue light on your devices using f.lux or night mode on apple.

  • Sleep in a cool, dark room. If the room has lights on, your sleep will be effective. Use blackout curtains and keep temperature low enough that is comfortable.

  • Use a sleep mask to block out extra light.

  • Do not consume caffeine or any stimulant in the afternoon/evening.

  • Avoid consuming too much alcohol, since it effects REM Sleep and will leave you waking up groggy.
